The EYES have it!

Last week we talked about serums and moisturizers.  I know alot of people think they can do without a serum.  And if you are one of those people, that's fine.  But as you can well imagine, I am not only a face serum girl... but also an eye serum girl.  I do use a different serum around my eyes than I do on my face.

Many people ask if they can just use their face products around their eyes, and I always answer "NO".   The skin around your eye is the thinnest skin on your body, so it absorbs your ingredients more readily and easily.  Eye creams are formulated to give you just the right amount of moisture and "technology" as that skin should absorb.  So, please don't use your face cream on your eyes.

My Regimen
For my eye serum, I am still using Lancome's High Resolution eye.  I probably wouldn't buy this again. I will very likely try to find a more useful eye serum for myself  I want brightening rather than anti-wrinkle.  At 40 years old, thankfully, I still do not have crow's feet.  Even under one of those laser machine testing things, it does not identify any type of lines around my eyes.  The High Res was a gratis that I started using because it was new and just haven't finished it yet.

After letting the serums soak in for a bit, I move on to moisture.

My eye cream is Avon's ANEW CLINICAL Eye Lift.  I cannot use SPF around my eyes, which I find unfortunate because that's where I would definitely want sun protection, but it is what it is.  Anew Clinical Eye Lift is great, because it gives you great moisture and brightening cream for under the eye and a great lifting gel for your lid.  This is optimal because it doesn't leave a greasy residue that might interfere with your eye makeup later.

Wait it Out
I try to let my moisturizer and eye cream soak in for a little bit... but I totally understand that we don't all have hours and hours to spend on our beauty ritual every day.  I will at least try to do a few things between full moisture and diving into my makeup drawers, like hair, brush teeth, getting dressed, etc.

It is essential that you moisturize before putting makeup on as it creates a smoother canvas for your color... but you don't want to be applying it if your moisturizer is still damp.

Where Does your Eye Cream Go?
As I mentioned previously, the skin around your eye is the thinnest skin on your body.  You really don't want to be rubbing and tugging on that skin.  You want to treat it as delicately as possible if you want to prolong its youthful appearance.

Much like this skin is the thinnest skin on your body, your ring finger is your weakest finger.  They should help each other.  So, dip your ring finger into your eye cream jar to get just a small amount on your finger.  Then you are going to dab the product around your orbital bone only.

What is your orbital bone?  I'm glad you asked.
Your orbital bone is just what it sounds like.  The bone surrounding your orbital area, or your eye area.  It generally is where your brow is (or just below your brow) and encircles your eye... it's basically your eye socket.

You're going to gently dab, dab, dab the eye cream around this bone.  Do not rub or tug.  And do not get the product any closer to your eye than your orbital bone.  Your body temperature will draw that product closer to your eye, so you want to start further out to keep it from ending up in your eye.

If you are using a two-phase product like I do, you want the tightening gel on your upper orbital area.  So just dab, dab, dab around there.  I generally use my brow as a guide and dab it into my brow line and just under.

If you're using an eye serum, you'll apply it with this same method UNDER your eye cream.

Don't forget, day and night, and you can be more liberal at night if you want.

Next week:
Primers and foundations.
